A NATURAL MEMORIAL IN HONOR OF THE FALLEN HEROES OF THE RUSSIAN-UKRAINIAN WAR CREATED ON KHORTYTSIA ISLAND
On April 5, 2025, on the initiative of the families of the fallen defenders of Ukraine, as well as the community of veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the NGO “RAZOM UA” (Zaporizhzhia) razom.ua, with the support and participation of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration, Zaporizhzhia City Council, State Department of National Police in Zaporizhzhia Region (Police of Zaporizhzhia Region), State Environmental Inspection of the Southern District, Department of the State Agency for Development of Land Reclamation, Fisheries and Food Programs in Zaporizhzhia Region (Zaporizhzhia Fish Protection Patrol), and Khortytsia National Reserve a natural memorial in honor of the fallen defenders of Ukraine was created on the territory of our Cossack Island.
Veterans and families of the fallen defenders, employees of municipal enterprises of the city, and the team of Khortytsia National Reserve carried out preliminary works to prepare the site for the future memorial: a plot in the area of the Reserve’s Dendropark was cleared, arranged, and prepared for planting trees.
The participants of the event planted more than 80 columnar oaks.
This “Park of Honor” will become another place to commemorate and perpetuate the memory of Ukrainian heroes.
Khortytsia Island is a place of our national strength and memory. Just as the glory of the Cossacks is immortal, the glory of the descendants of the Cossacks – the defenders of Ukraine – will remain for centuries. Their courage, sacrifice, and loyalty to the Ukrainian people, state, and brothers are examples of life-giving energy for us, the present, and future generations. Their sacrifice shows what it means to have honor and love for one’s homeland. Because we, brothers, belong to the Cossack nation!
Eternal glory and praise to the fallen heroes!
