Children’s drawing contest to commemorate the 210th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s birth
CONDITIONS AND PROCEDURE OF THE CHILDREN’S DRAWING CONTEST “MODERN TARAS SHEVCHENKO”
The contest’s purpose is to actualize the work of the national poet Taras Shevchenko in the context of the current Russian-Ukrainian war.
Age categories of the participants: 7–10 years old; 11–13 years old.
The contest will last from February 1, 2024, to February 29, 2024.
The drawings of the contest participants will be put up for voting on the Reserve website and Facebook page from March 1, 2024, to March 7, 2024.
To participate in the contest:
- a) send the drawing by registered mail to the address: Staroho Redutu Street.,9, Zaporizhzhia, 69017, National Reserve Khortytsia. On the envelope, please indicate “Contest “Modern Taras Shevchenko”, the name of the author of the drawing, and the contact phone number (or e-mail). The date of sending the letter must be no later than February 27, 2024.
- b) hand over the envelope with the drawing to the workers of the Reserve at the address: Tsentralnyi Boulevard, 3, Zaporizhzhia (the “House of Shoes”, 2nd floor), the Museum Studios “The City Beyond the Rapids”.
Opening hours: daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (except Monday and Tuesday). The envelope should say, “Contest “Modern Taras Shevchenko”, the name of the author of the drawing, and the contact phone number (or e-mail). The last day for submitting works for the contest is February 29, 2024 (Thursday).
Winners (1st and 2nd place): the winners of the contest (in each age group) will be determined by the number of “likes” given to the drawings by visitors; the organizers of the contest will determine another winner.
Incentive prizes: exclusive souvenirs from Khortytsia National Reserve.
According to the results of the contest, the following will take place:
– March 8 – announcement of the winners on the Reserve’s website/Facebook page;
– March 9 (Saturday) – awarding of the winners (information about the time and place will be determined later);
– all works will be presented at the virtual exhibition;
– at the request and with the permission of the contestants, their drawings will be sent to the combat units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
CONTEST TERMS: What should the drawing be about, and what should it look like?
- The drawing should illustrate Taras Shevchenko’s ideas about the Ukrainian people’s struggle for freedom and independence. For example, the drawing can depict the image of Taras Shevchenko as the author sees him today; it can illustrate a specific work by Kobzar; an image of a modern warrior-defender, a picture of a Cossack, Ukraine, etc. The drawing must contain a quote from Taras Shevchenko’s poetry that reveals the theme and idea of the drawing.
- Authors must provide an original drawing in any technique. Paper size: A4, A3. A personal signature of the author, name, surname, and age must be present in the lower corner of the drawing’s front side.
- If desired, the author may add his/her description, interpretation of the picture, or his/her wishes to the soldiers-defenders, all Ukrainians who are defending the Ukrainian land from the Russian aggressor, on the reverse side of the picture (or on a separate sheet).
