On June 25, 2024, Count Gregor Rozumovsky, a direct descendant of Hetman Kyrylo Rozumovsky in the seventh generation, visited the Khortytsia National Reserve.
Gregor Rozumovsky is an Austrian historian, political, public, and cultural activist, specialist in combating propaganda and disinformation, and one of the leading analysts in the field of communications and information flows in the German-speaking countries of the EU.
Since the end of the 1980s, he has actively protected and promoted Ukrainian interests in Western European social and political circles. He has also visited Ukraine almost every year since 1991.
Gregor Rozumovsky visited the island of Khortytsia for the first time.
He got acquainted with historical and cultural heritage objects and spoke to the reserve’s leading specialists. They discussed the importance of preserving and popularizing the true history of the Zaporozhzhia Cossacks, countering colonial myths and enemy propaganda narratives. They touched on the issues of the reserve’s activity and cultural role in the conditions of the ongoing Russia-Ukrainian war.
We are confident that in future joint projects, we will be able to take essential steps in popularizing the history of Ukrainian Cossacks as a vital component in establishing national identity and strengthening Ukrainian statehood.
