Dear Zaporizhzhia residents and guests of our Cossack island! We are launching a new column, “Diary of the Khortytsia National Reserve”

We would like to inform you about the work of our large team of employees, who are dedicated to preserving the historical, cultural, and natural treasures of the largest island on the Dnipro River. Much of this work is painstaking and requires a great deal of effort, most of which remains behind the scenes and out of public view. Every day, more than one hundred and fifty people, each in their workplace, take care of the reserve. They protect, clean, and tidy up the territory; take care of the infrastructure; conduct scientific, cultural, and educational research; and ensure the preservation of museum collections.

The russian aggressor not only wants to seize our territory but also wants to destroy our culture and identity. Therefore, protecting the unique nature of Khortytsia Island and preserving and popularizing the historical and cultural treasures of our people is our cultural front. This is how we serve the Ukrainian people, our state, and future generations.
