discovery of large animal bones on the river bank
At the end of July, after the extreme drop in the water level of Dnipro, the Khortytsia National Reserve received a request from a resident of Zaporizhzhia, Kostiantyn Nelipa, about the discovery of large animal bones on the river bank.
During the inspection of the specified place, the reserve employees discovered two bones of a representative of the mammoth fauna: the humerus and the tibia. During the territory investigation, the scapula of the same animal was found next to these bones.
The found materials were delivered to the Khortytsia National Reserve for further research and conservation.
These mammoth remains are one of the few known for the Zaporizhzhia region. They are significant for studying and understanding historical processes and natural transformations that took place in our area in the past.
