“INCLUSION IN THE EXHIBITION SPACE”
“INCLUSION IN THE EXHIBITION SPACE”
was the leading topic of the VIII All-Ukrainian scientific and practical seminar, “Modern Museum Space: Problems, Prospects, Innovations,” organized by the Khortytsia National Reserve.
The seminar took place on December 3, 2025, which is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Ensuring equal rights and opportunities for people with disabilities to access historical and cultural heritage remains a priority in the cultural sector.
Alina Bilan, the chief specialist of the Department of Barrier-Free Policy of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, gave the opening speech.
About 100 seminar participants became familiar with accessibility issues and practical solutions.
Experts responsible for implementing barrier-free programs at the Khortytsia National Reserve, the National Preserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra,” the National Museum of Arts named after Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko (Kyiv), the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War (Kyiv), the Kharkiv Art Museum, the Central Ukrainian Regional Museum of Local Lore (Kropyvnytskyi), and the The Museum of the Truskavets Resort City shared their knowledge and experience with their colleagues regarding the implementation of modern inclusive practices. A representative of the public initiative “My Future Heritage” spoke about inclusive tactile practices in Lviv museums.
Such meetings are important because each cultural institution gains unique experience in ensuring barrier-free access. Sharing this knowledge helps colleagues incorporate it into their work and planning, accelerating the implementation of inclusive projects in their institutions.
Each cultural institution has already accomplished a great deal, but there is still much work to be done. Historical and cultural heritage should be accessible to everyone!
