On November 7, 2025, Oleksiy Sheremetyev transferred over 400 artifacts from the Cossack era of the 17th and 18th centuries to the Khortytsia National Reserve.

Sheremetyev is a well-known Ukrainian collector, philanthropist, and researcher of Ukrainian history. He is also the co-founder of the Sheremetyev Museum in Kyiv.

The most valuable artifacts are a karabela saber of European manufacture and a musket-fuzja. The collection’s highlight is the wooden parts of the cartridge box, which were filled with a standardized charge of gunpowder to accelerate firing. Other exhibits include various rigging elements, such as wooden ship blocks, a deadeye, and a rare depth-measuring device. A ceramic from a 17th-century Cossack boat, household items, personal items, and various tools deserve special attention.

The new acquisitions were presented at the joint exhibition of the Khortytsia National Reserve and the Sheremetyev Museum, “Sea Campaigns of the Zaporozhians and the Khortytsia Shipyard,” which opened on November 5, 2025, at the historical and cultural Complex “Zaporozhian Sich.”

During the exhibition’s opening, Olexiy Sheremetyev said, “Everyone who visits this exhibition or this museum will leave with an understanding that we are a great country with a great past and an even greater future.”

This exhibition marks the beginning of a significant collaboration between the Khortytsia National Reserve and the Sheremetyev Museum.

We sincerely thank Mr. Sheremetyev for donating artifacts that significantly enriched and supplemented our collection of Cossack-era objects. These artifacts will enable our specialists to present the history of the Zaporozhian Cossacks more fully and clearly to visitors of the Khortytsia National Reserve.
