THE ISLAND OF KHORTYTSIA IS A SYMBOL OF COSSACK STRENGTH AND INVINCIBILITY

Ukrainians are the descendants and bearers of the code of chivalry of the Zaporozhzhia Cossacks. We have inscribed this in our National Anthem with the words “For we, brothers, are of the Cossack nation”, and every day for 11 years, we have been confirming its truth with our heroic deeds in the armed struggle against the Russian aggressor, defending our freedom, independence, and state sovereignty.

Khortytsia Island has long been an essential part of the Ukrainian national idea – a symbol of the Zaporozhzhia Cossacks, a place of our military tradition.

For the past three years, most visitors to Khortytsia Island have been military personnel, veterans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and their families. First, they receive spiritual and cultural rehabilitation here – they learn more about the national history and feel their direct involvement in the glorious Cossack family. The island’s nature and landscapes contribute to restoring their strength. More and more often, Khortytsia becomes the place of initiation of our soldiers into the Cossacks and the place of presentation of state awards and distinctions. In the Cossack Mother of God Church, prayers are said for the Ukrainian Army, memorial services for the fallen heroes are held, and the Cossack island has become a place to perpetuate their memory (trees are planted, memorial signs are installed).

The Khortytsia National Reserve supports and provides maximum assistance in holding each event. This spiritual synergy of the Cossack generations of Ukrainians on the Khortytsia Island testifies to our strength and vital potential.

Visit Khortytsia! Be proud of our Cossack nation!
