THE KHORTYTSIA NATIONAL RESERVE RECEIVED DISTINGUISHED GUESTS

The acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Rostyslav Karandieiev, visited the Khortytsia National Reserve as part of a working visit to the Zaporizhzhia region.

The head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration, Ivan Fedorov, and the acting Mayor of Zaporizhzhia, Regina Kharchenko, also met the reserve’s administration.

Acting director-general of the Khortytsia National Reserve, Valery Shevchenko reported on the institution’s activities during the martial law period and plans for further development. In particular, he emphasized that despite the challenging time for the country and being in the front-line zone, the reserve managed to keep a team of professionals who successfully carried out all possible measures for preserving historical, cultural, and natural objects on Khortytsia island. Museum specialists, archaeologists, and historians continue to enrich the museum’s collection and carry out vital scientific, research, cultural, and educational work.

Valery Shevchenko also expressed his gratitude for the crucial support from the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration. Their active involvement paved the way for the completion of necessary measures for the partial resumption of tourist and excursion services by the reserve. This included the long-awaited reopening of the Historical and Cultural Complex “Zaporozhzhia Sich”, which had been closed for almost 2.5 years.

The head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration, Ivan Fedorov, noted that the Regional Defense Council, considering the activities carried out by the reserve and understanding the critical mobilizing role of the historical and cultural component, permitted to visit tourist sites in the northeastern part of the island, in particular, the Historical and Cultural Complex “Zaporozhzhia Sich”. The Regional State Administration will continue to support the work of the reserve.

Acting Mayor of Zaporizhzhia, Regina Kharchenko, pointed out that culture is the foundation and value. Supporting the development of culture is one of the city government’s priorities. The city of Zaporizhzhia is always ready to contribute actively to developing the Khortytsia National Reserve.

Acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Rostyslav Karandieiev, supported the opening of excursions and tourist activities in the reserve and noted the unique role of the Khortytsia National Reserve as one of the critical centers of establishing national and civic identity and as a place that inspires soldiers and citizens to victory.

At the end of the meeting, departmental certificates were awarded to reserve employees for their contributions to preserving the historical and cultural heritage.
