THE THIRD ALL-UKRAINIAN CLEAN-UP
THE THIRD ALL-UKRAINIAN CLEAN-UP
On July 27, the UAnimals Foundation, a dedicated friend of Khortytsia, held another cleanup as part of the third All-Ukrainian Clean-Up march. Part of the event was a safety briefing and a lecture on handling explosive objects by the Headquarters of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Zaporizhzhia region.
For several hours, more than 70 participants cleaned thousands of plastic bottles (about 25 m3) washed by river waves to the island’s banks, left by careless citizens in their resting places. All the debris will be transported to an appropriate facility for processing.
The event was highly active and productive. Regina Harchenko, acting Mayor of the Zaporizhia City Council, inspired the action. The fast pace of clean-up made it possible to clear a sufficiently large part of the reserve. Zaporizhzhia city authorities will also ensure the removal of non-recyclable garbage.
Today, the island’s animals are much more comfortable and safe. Khortytsia Island will sigh with relief and undoubtedly thank everyone who joins the vital cause of preserving its beauty and strength.
Cultivating care, responsibility, and caring in ourselves and each of us will undoubtedly make us pure-minded.
