We invite citizens and guests of Zaporizhzhia to the lecture “SOPHISTICATED CUISINE OF THE COSSACK CHIEFS OF THE 18TH CENTURY.”

What was the cuisine of the Cossack chiefs and leaders in the 18th century? Were there any culinary trends at the time?

And still, there were. Cossacks fought, traveled the world, studied abroad, visited embassies, and received foreign guests themselves.

Thus, in the 17th century, the Ukrainian ecclesiastical and Cossack elites were quite familiar with the French gastronomic tradition and the rules of etiquette. How? With the help of famous Frenchmen who visited our country—Guillaume Levasseur de Beauplan, Theophanes III, Willem Hondius, and many others. And even earlier, in the 15th century, many natives of Ukrainian lands studied at the Sorbonne. Cossacks were well-versed in soups, pates, and wines from Bordeaux.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, expensive goods such as wine, oranges, raisins, and figs were always in the merchants’ warehouses of Turks, Greeks, and Armenians. So, there was a demand for this exotic.

Ukrainians were very fond of fish, especially herring. The supply of fish products to Ukrainian territories was well established, for example, Gdańsk and Danube herring.

So, come to the lecture. A delicious story about delicious things awaits you!

AND YOU WILL BE SURPRISED!

The lecture will take place on June 15, 2024 (Saturday) at 11:00 a.m. in the Museum Studios “The City Beyond The Rapids” (in the center of the city) at the address: Zaporizhzhia, Tsentralnyi Boulevard, 3 (“House of shoes”, 2nd floor).

It will be exciting!
