On August 12, Ukraine celebrates Youth Day.

On this occasion, events were held on the island of Khortytsia, organized by veteran communities of Zaporizhzhia, namely the NGO “PATRIOTS 1556” and NGO “RAZOM.UA,” and the Khortytsia National Reserve.

Veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian War, as well as young athletes and children, gathered near the memorial to the legendary “Cyborg” and historian Vyacheslav Zaitsev. They honored the memory of all fallen Ukrainian defenders with a minute of silence.

With the participation of specialists from the reserve, the attendants held an ecological campaign to clean up the territory near the historical and cultural complex “Zaporozhzhia Sich.”

After the productive event, the children and youth attended a lecture titled “The Phenomenon of the Zaporozhzhia Cossacks” and participated in a quest excursion around the “Zaporozhzhia Sich.” The delicious highlight of these events was the Cossack kulish stew.

The veteran youth who initiated this action are convinced that protecting and caring for one’s home and land is the best proof of a person’s patriotism and civic maturity. Khortytsia is our home. Good owners should take care of it and find strength there. Our strength comes from the memory and knowledge of our Cossack ancestors and their struggle for the will of the Ukrainian people. It is not words, but joint deeds for the good of the Nation and State that unite people.
